The Mess

Today I made an awful mess
Her vase is now a broken glass
But I was running way too fast
I think I am in trouble

But then I heard her coming, and just as I was running, she said

Stop and think about the mess you made
And you’ve good reason you should be afraid
And my heart started thumping and my knees grew weak
And my mouth fell open
But I could not speak

Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh
But I said

Wait I think I’ve got a plan for this
I can blame it on my brother yeah the whole darn mess
So I made up a story that they’d all believe
About my brother and the vase and the thing I’d seen

But now I’m in another mess
She knew it was a lie I guess
And lying’s worse than breaking glass
I think I’m still in trouble

So just as I was lying, I started clarifying, she said

Stop and think about the mess you made
And you’ve got good reason you should be afraid
And my heart started thumping and my knees grew weak
And my mouth fell open but I could not speak

Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh
But I said

Wait I think I’ve got a plan for this
I can tell her that I’m sorry and that I’ll confess
So I told her that my story wasn’t really true
But I didn’t seem sorry and I think she knew…

So now I’ve made another mess
And now the lesson’s clear I guess
I have to tell the truth unless
I have a better story
